The BMW R50 was introduced in 1955 as part of BMW’s post-war line of motorcycles and is considered a classic example of mid-century German engineering. It was part of the “R” series that helped re-establish BMW’s reputation for producing reliable and high-quality motorcycles after World War II.
The R50 featured a 494cc flat-twin (boxer) engine that produced about 26 horsepower, paired with a shaft drive system—something BMW has long been known for. The bike was designed for smooth touring rather than outright speed, with a top speed of around 135 km/h (84 mph).
Technically advanced for its time, the R50 came with Earles-type leading link front forks, which improved stability and handling, especially when used with a sidecar—a popular option. Its design focused on durability, low maintenance, and rider comfort.
Built until 1969, the R50 helped cement BMW’s legacy in the motorcycle world and is now a sought-after vintage bike, admired for its classic styling, mechanical simplicity, and ride quality.
The model on offer here features Heinrich fairing. It was also serviced recently, invoices and documentation are available. New tyres were fitted, so it's ready to go!
