The Garelli Junior was part of an Italian line of lightweight mopeds/small motorcycles produced between roughly 1960 and 1976. It was designed to serve as a practical, sporty entry-level machine, with multiple sub-variants such as Junior Turismo, Junior Cross, and Junior Gran Turismo.

Garelli (founded by engineer Adalberto Garelli) had a long history in two-stroke engine innovation and racing. After World War II, the company shifted focus toward small displacement machines and mopeds for the European market. In 1961 Garelli merged with Agrati, which helped scale the production of mopeds and light motorcycles.

The Junior models typically featured a single-cylinder, air-cooled two-stroke engine of around 49 cc, with varying power outputs (commonly in the range of 1.5 to 2.5 PS, depending on model/year) and gearboxes of 2 to 4 speeds. Early models were intended for general transportation, while later “Cross” versions added more off-road styling with raised exhausts and rugged tyres.

Though modest in mechanical complexity, the Junior series is valued today for its classic Italian styling, compactness, and role in the golden era of European mopeds. Many survive in restored or semi-restored condition and are collectible among enthusiasts of small displacement vintage machines.

The model on offer here has been perfectly restored and was imported to the Netherlands on 31/08/2005.
